What Are Tooth Extractions?

Even though Dr. Levi Evalt makes every attempt to conserve and preserve your natural teeth, there are cases where a tooth or teeth may have to be extracted. A simple extraction removes a tooth that is visible over the gums. This is typically used for a tooth that is damaged or decayed beyond repair. A surgical extraction removes a tooth that hasn't erupted over the gumline. Surgical extractions are most frequently done to remove impacted teeth, like wisdom teeth, that do not have sufficient space to fit into your mouth. Whatever the reason for having an extraction at Dr. Levi Evalt Dental Excellence, our team will give you the best treatment. Our Corry, PA office provides different sedation methods, like nitrous oxide and oral-conscious sedation, which means you can stay comfortable and calm during your treatment. Am I a Candidate for Tooth Extractions?

If your tooth is damaged or broken from decay, Dr. Evalt can make every attempt to repair it using a filling, bonding, or crown. However, a tooth may be too far into decay and must be removed to prevent the damage from spreading and conserve the remaining teeth's health. You may also require an extraction to remove a tooth or teeth that can't fit in your mouth. This includes your third molars, commonly called wisdom teeth, which develop around age 17 – 21. In older kids, infant teeth that have not naturally fallen out may need to be pulled so they don't block the permanent teeth.

How Do Tooth Extractions Work?

Dental extractions are performed in our office using local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth being treated. Different forms of sedation may be used, depending on the extent of the extraction and to help keep you relaxed if you have some dental worries. Once you're prepared, Dr. Evalt will start the procedure. For a simple extraction, Dr. Evalt will loosen up the tooth with a special device known as an elevator before removing the tooth. A surgical extraction involves making incisions in your gums to get to the tooth. If needed, the tooth may be broken up into smaller pieces so that it can be removed. When the tooth has been removed, Dr. Evalt will stitch the incision in the gums. Dr. Evalt can prescribe antibiotics that should be taken before and following the procedure — in case you have a current illness, if your immune system is weak, if the process is lengthy, or if you have some other specific health problems.

Best dentist I have been to. Made getting my wisdom tooth and old root canal out a breeze. Recommend 1000x over. This office makes me like going to the dentist.

I have a huge fear of any dental procedure, with that being said, Dr. Evalt made me comfortable and calm. The worse part is the shots as with any dental work. But after the medication worked as supposed to, I hardly felt anything but pressure during extractions. And very minimal pain or swelling compared to previous extractions. I am having an issue with bone spurs not breaking through the gums to work them out. I reached out to the office and were planning to address the issue this week. I recommend Dr. Evalt to anyone who askes about needing dental care.
